Explore the detailed features, UI, pricing, pros, etc of the latest version of the video editing software Filmora – Wondershare Filmora 11:

As far as consumer-friendly video editors go, Wondershare’s Filmora has always earned high praise from us. It is a tool we recommend to video editors, both professionals and beginners.

The previous version, Filmora X, was a near-perfect user-friendly video editing tool that surpassed our managed expectations about both its usability and overall functionality.

We were naturally curious when the new Wondershare Filmora 11 was announced. We were stoked, of course, but also reasonably skeptical about the new version. After all, what fresh additions could you possibly add to a tool that is already rich in features?

In this review, we will share our experience using the latest version of Filmora i.e Wondershare Filmora 11. We will discuss its UI and features (both old and new), discuss its price, and ultimately leave you with our honest thoughts.

Wondershare Filmora 11 - Hands on Review

Filmora was a tool always known for its simplicity, features, and a massive library of audio and visual effects. Filmora 11 has improved on that by expanding its already massive library with new effects and additional features. Fortunately, it does so while maintaining its original finesse.

User Interface

Don’t fix what isn’t broken. Fortunately for us, Filmora 11 takes this advice to heart. You get an interface that is simple yet sleek enough in its aesthetics. When you open Filmora 11 on your Windows or Mac device, you will be greeted with a splash screen such as the one depicted below.

Wondershare Filmora 11 - splash screen

You have the option to maintain this behavior moving forward or automatically bypass the screen the next time you open the software. This, we feel, is a welcome addition, giving you the option to make a few adjustments before you jump into the editing process.

Here, you can set the desired aspect ratio of your project. The default ratio will always be 16:9. However, you can switch it with any of the other options available. You can go with:

  • 1:1 for Instagram
  • 4:3 for Standard Definition
  • 9:16 for Facebook
  • 21:9 for Widescreen

You can also get direct access to a few features from the splash screen itself. You can access the screen recorder by clicking on ‘PC Screen’ or opt for the new ‘Auto Reframe’ or ‘Auto Beat Sync’ feature directly from here.

Auto Reframe will allow you to quickly switch from one aspect ratio to another. Then there is the ‘Auto Beat Sync’ feature, which we will discuss later in the review.

Below are the options, you will find a space that will showcase and give you quick access to all your current projects. You can move to the main editing interface by selecting any of your current projects or clicking on the ‘Add New Project’ option above.

The main editing interface, as we mentioned, is as user-friendly, modern, and clutter-free as the previous versions. Filmora avoids the mistake of populating its interface with incessant menu trees for features, which we appreciate.

The interface itself is divided into three sections. They are as follows:

#1) Library

 Wondershare Filmora 11 - Library

The library section is where you can prepare all of your video, audio, and image files for editing. Access to filters, templates, transitions, and effects is also available here. You can import your video or image files here by simply tapping ‘CTRL+I’ on your keypad. You have other options available as well for importing files.

Filmora 11 allows you to import files directly from a camera or phone, import an entire media folder, or import a file with the new ‘Audio Beat Sync’ feature. You can also employ ‘Instant Mode’ available on the splash screen, which provides you access to customizable video templates (more on this later).

#2) Preview

 Wondershare Filmora 11 - Preview

The preview section is where you’ll be able to monitor the progress of your editing tasks as you work on them. You can playback a section of your project or the entire project altogether to assess the end result before exporting the file.

#3) The Timeline

timeline

This is where you will add, arrange, and edit all of your images, audio, and video clips. We like how you can just add things to the timeline by simply dragging and dropping clips on it. The timeline makes it very easy to cut a clip or stitch two clips together.

To cut a clip, all you have to do is place the play head at the point on the timeline you want to be chopped and click on the ‘scissors’ icon above.

You can also shorten or increase the length of your file by placing your cursor at the end and dragging the clip. You can instantly get rid of any unnecessary elements on the timeline by clicking on them and hitting the ‘Delete’ icon.

This is also where you can add effects, filters, and transitions. A bulk of your editing actions will take place here. Everything you need is right before your eyes and only one click away.

All icons that represent an editing action are easy to understand, so you can rest assured of not getting lost during the editing process.

Features

Filmora 11 introduces a few unique features while retaining all the core functionalities that made it an ideal choice for video editors in the first place. Let’s have a look at what’s new, while also revisiting a few of its key features.

What’s New?

#1) Speed Ramping

Wondershare Filmora 11 - Speed Ramping

This new feature from Filmora 11 gives you more control over the keyframing of your projects. You can easily adjust the keyframes or speed of your video with “Speed Ramping”, thus you can create and experiment with some fascinating effects.

To use this feature, simply right-click the clip on your timeline and select ‘Speed’ and then ‘Speed Ramping’ from the opened menu.

This will open a separate settings window for you to choose between the different pre-set speed templates. You also have the option to customize the keyframes as per your wish to get the results you seek.

In the settings window, you can increase the speed of your video by grabbing the keyframe and moving it up. On the other hand, you can slow the speed by moving the keyframe down.

SPEED RAMP

You also get the freedom to add more keyframes by moving the play-head where you wish to change the speed. Simply click the ‘Plus’ button to add a new keyframe after placing the play-head in the desired spot.

#2) Masking

masking

Filmora 11 has been upgraded to now facilitate the masking of keyframes. To mask keyframes, double click the clip on your timeline, which will open a settings window in the library. Under the videos section, choose the ‘Mask’ option. Here, you will be able to choose from multiple shapes.

For this project, we went with the ‘Star’ shape. Once chosen, you can easily drag the shape onto your clip in the preview section.

Scrolling down in the windows section will bring you to more settings wherein you can adjust the scale, position, width, height, and radius of your chosen shape. You can also blur the strength of the shape and rotate it to better complement the elements you are trying to mask in the window.

Mask 2

Once done, you can proceed to add the keyframe by hitting the ‘add’ button. You can then further adjust the shape of the mask to match the added frame.

#3) Auto Synchronization

This feature is a godsend for all those who find the task of synching audio with a video clip especially frustrating. Filmora 11 can now automatically align video and audio captured by separate devices in the same scene with little to no effort required.

To auto synchronize, upload both the video and audio files you want to sync. Then, select both files in your media folder and right-click to open a menu. On the menu, select Auto-Synchronization. The clips will immediately sync with each other automatically on your timeline.

#4) Auto Beat Synchronization

Wondershare Filmora 11 - Auto beat Synchronization

Similar to auto-synchronization, Filmora 11 further improves on its previous version by introducing the new feature ‘Auto Beat Synchronization’. This feature easily matches the added music to the visuals of your video. This feature also allows you to add certain video effects to greatly enhance the visual style of your video.

Please note, this feature is only available for the Windows system.

#5) Instant Import

Wondershare Filmora 11 - Instant mode

This is a feature designed for those users who do not want to waste time with the nitty-gritty of video editing. Filmora 11 now allows you to create a full-fledged video by choosing any pre-made customizable template from its library right from the get-go.

The videos are almost entirely pre-processed and serve a variety of different purposes. With just one click, you can have completed videos with cinematic title cards that are ideal for business, school presentations, vlogs, YouTube videos, family slideshow albums, etc.

#6) Boris FX and NewBlue FX Plug-ins

Boris

Filmora 11 expands on its already excellent effects library by introducing new plug-ins that give you access to visual effects from leading visual effects developers – Boris FX and NewBlue FX. As such, Filmora 11 offers a plethora of mesmerising effects that will greatly enhance the visual style and appeal of your video.

NewBlue

You’ll get a variety of settings, styles, and lighting options to choose from. For instance, you can create a completely new light effect in post-production with BCC Lights effects. Boris FX also includes effects that can allow you to restore an image to its original quality with just the click of a button, thanks to the BCC Image Restoration effect.

The visual effects you can experiment with are endless with the addition of these two new plug-ins.

#7) Wondershare Drive

Another amazing feature you will find on Filmora 11 is the Wondershare Drive. You now have a cloud drive to store all your projects. This feature helps you save space on your personal device while making your projects easily accessible from any device via the internet. You will also get the option to share the projects stored on the drive with your audience.

#8) Preset Template and Stock Media Library

Preset template

Filmora 11 also has a bunch of new templates and royalty-free media files for you to try. With the new additions, Filmora’s media library has over 10 million sample images, videos, and audio files, which you can use to make video editing efficient and convenient.

Other Key Features

Along with the new features, Filmora 11 also excels by offering all the features that made its previous version such a hit among video creators.

#1) Color Matching

color match

This semi-automated module lets you apply color correction settings across multiple clips to make sure the clips when stitched together possess the same aesthetic style. This feature is great if your video is shot with different cameras or in different environments.

#2) Green Screen

Wondershare Filmora 11 - Green Screen

This is a great feature for content creators who want to change a video’s background with various effects. In fact, the ‘Green Screen’ module in Filmora 11 can key out any color you desire and replace it with a visual effect. You can also adjust the edge thickness, tolerance, and offset of green screen videos to get the perfect background effect.

#3) Split Screen

split screen

You can stitch together multiple video clips or images onto a single frame by opting for Filmora’s ‘Split Screen’ feature. You get multiple ‘Split Screen’ templates to choose from to automatically create the effect you desire.

#4) Motion Tracking

motion tracking

This feature allows you to detect a moving object on a video and create a motion path by automatically tracking it. Once the path has been established, you can attach another object to it, which can be a text or image that follows the original object in motion.

#5) Audio Ducking

Audio Ducking

Filmora 11 retains this amazing feature introduced in Filmora X. This feature automatically lowers the background audio volume in selected sections of a clip. To access the ‘Audio Ducking’ feature, select the section of the video where you want to apply the effect, right-click, and select ‘Adjust Audio’. Select ‘Ducking’ on the open window.

Checkmark the option that says ‘lower the volume of other clips’. The volume on the selected sections of your clip will now be lowered. You can adjust the volume by moving the slider on the bar available right below. The higher the number on the slider, the lower the background volume will be.

Pricing

Filmora 11 offers two subscription plans to its users. You can either get the annual plan, which is priced at $49.99 per year, or can opt for the lifetime subscription plan that amounts to $79.99 in onetime payment.

We believe the price is reasonable once you consider how feature-rich this software is, especially when you pit it against other contemporary video editing tools like Apple Final Cut Pro and Adobe Premiere Pro.

It is far more flexible in its pricing with a lifetime fee that proves cost-effective in the long run. Furthermore, a separate effects and resource add-on package will cost you an additional $39.96/month.

Conclusion

Filmora 11 greatly improved on what was already phenomenal video editing software. It retains all the features that made it such a great editing tool in the first place while adding new features that considerably enhance the user experience. The ability to automatically synchronize audio with the corresponding clip seamlessly should’ve been enough to win us over.

However, Wondershare Filmora 11 doesn’t stop there with its innovations. You can now create fascinating new effects by adjusting the speed of your video with speed ramping. You also get access to state-of-the-art visual effects, thanks to the Boris FX and NewBlue FX plug-ins.

Filmora 11 also shines with regards to its new offering of preset templates that make video creation simple. The only caveat we could find is the fact that some of its best new features aren’t available for the Mac version. We hope this changes soon.

Overall, this new version continues to prove why Filmora is one of the best consumer-friendly video editing software of our generation. This is software that will satisfy video creators, entertainers, business marketers, and many others with its unparalleled simplicity and remarkable features. Wondershare Filmora 11 has our highest recommendation.
