This final grade calculator will calculate the grade percentage that you need on your final exam to get the desired grade in the course.

This is a basic and advanced grade calculator with additional features, including a final grade calculator that displays points and weighted percentages.

Final Grade Calculator
Calculate what you need to score on your final exam
How does this work?

Most class grades are made up of several categories: homework, classwork, tests and quizzes, and the final exam. Usually, each category is worth a percentage of your overall grade. This calculator uses the formula:

Required = (Goal – Current x (100% – Final Weight)) / Final Weight

The calculator scales your current grade to account for the final exam weight and determines what score you need to achieve your desired grade.

What the Final Grade Calculator Does

The Final Grade Calculator is a grade prediction tool that helps students answer the most common question during finals week: “What score do I need on my final exam to get the grade I want in this class?”. Instead of performing complex math calculations by hand, students can obtain instant, accurate answers in seconds.

The weighted average formula for the final grade calculation is: Final Grade = (Current Work × Current Weight) + (Final Exam × Final Weight), where weights are as decimals (25% = 0.25)

How to Use the Final Exam Grade Calculator

First, you need to choose your final exam grade calculator mode.

The three modes are as follows:

  • Basic Calculator – This is the most basic and commonly used
  • Advanced Mode – This is used for complex grade calculations
  • Reverse Calculator – This is used in case you have already taken your final exam

Basic Calculator

When to use this: You’ve completed most of the coursework, and only the final exam remains.

FORMULA:

Required Final Score = (Desired Grade - Current Grade × (100 - Final Weight)) / Final Weight

What you need:

  1. Current Grade (%) – Your grade right now, before the final
  2. Desired Grade (%) – What grade do you want to end up with
  3. Final Exam Weight (%) – How much the final counts towards your total grade

Here is a quick example of this:

Current Grade: 87%
Desired Grade: 90%
Final Exam Weight: 25%

Result: “You need to score 99.0% on your final exam”.

Advanced Mode

When to use this mode: When you still have assignments due before finals or extra credit opportunities.

FORMULA:

Required Final Score = (Adjusted Desired - Current Contribution - Remaining Contribution) / Final Weight × 100

What you need:

  • Details required in basic mode + the following details:
  • Remaining Coursework Weight (%) – Homework/projects still due
  • Extra Credit checkbox – Check if you have extra credit available
  • Extra Credit Points – How many bonus points can you earn

Example:

Current Grade: 82%
Desired Grade: 88%
Final Exam Weight: 30%
Remaining Coursework: 10%
Extra Credit: ✓ (3 points)

Result: “You need to score 86.0% on your final exam (assuming 100% on remaining coursework) with 3 points extra credit”.

Reverse Calculator

When to use: You’ve already taken your final and want to know your overall grade.

FORMULA:

Overall Grade = Current Grade × (100 - Final Weight)/100 + Final Score × Final Weight/100

What you need:

  1. Current Grade (%) – Your grade before the final exam
  2. Final Exam Score (%) – What you scored on the final exam
  3. Final Exam Weight (%) – How much the final counts

Example:

Current Grade: 85%
Final Exam Score: 92%
Final Exam Weight: 25%

Result: “Your overall grade will be 86.8%”.
