Global Software Testing business to reach $13 Billion - Good news for Indian software Testers

The most frequently asked questions to me till date are “What is the future of software testing business?” “Should I consider software testing as my career option?” - Now you don’t need to ask these question to me any more. See the good news below.

Infosys Chief Executive and Managing Director, Mr. Kris Gopalakrishnan estimated global software testing business to reach $13 Billion by 2010. Out of these approximately half of the testing work will be outsourced to India - according to Mr. Gopalakrishnan. That’s great news for Indian software testers.

Mr.Gopalakrishnan was speaking in inauguration of International software testing conference in Bangalore organized by STeP-IN. The conference was aimed to discuss on various software testing opportunities and future of Indian test community.

Currently Indian software testing community is the largest in the industry and hence there is tremendous business competition in Indian corporations. This competition finally leads to quality work and this is helping India to satisfy global customers. India is having immense talent and customers are coming to India for superior work quality.

Software testers and analysts are now key part of any product team. Indian IT giants like Infosys is deriving upto 10 per cent of revenue from software testing services and significantly growing each year.

Irrespective of software testing global or Indian business I have always suggested candidates to choose your career according to your interest. One can make a good career in any field if you have interest and goal to pioneer in that field. Without interest not a single career option will work for you.

So tighten the belts - learn new technologies on software testing, continuously update your knowledge and don’t even think about future of software testing market!

What’s that you say?

    Dear All,

This is a great news and an expected one. As today’s web technologies emerging day by day, the complexity of developing a software project/product is a challenging one and no company can bypass the testing phase. But one thing i want to tell to the testing community is gain as many knowledge and keep update yourserlf. More oppurtunity will knock you and at last but not least to conclude Testing will become more important for any company to standout in the competitive Industry.

    #54 Kavita on 06.18.08 at 6:53 am

I want to change my job, I am working as a manual tester since last 20 months. But not getting interview calls. I have heard people saying U.S. market is down, thats why we have recession in IT. can anyone tell me till when we are not going to have calls. I am trying to change my job since past 6 months.

    #55 Tiger2K on 06.18.08 at 7:01 am

    Hi Kavitha,
U.S Recression has nothing to do with you not getting interview calls, Recruitment is still going
on in a large scale, because india is not depended completly on US any more. They have entered new
market like UK,Australia, Singapore and Middle east. Where lots of potential oppurtunites
    exist.
What i can suggest you is to try changing your resume format , maybe update or gather new
skills which are in demand and i dont see any reason why you wont get interview calls.

    Regards,
    Tiger2K.

    #56 Kavita on 06.18.08 at 7:23 am

Thank u tiger 2k for your reply.

I belong to delhi, and observed the calls for 3+ yrs. experience and r for the location chennai, banglore, pune. As u told above to learn new technology, that I do agree, most of the companies r in demand of automation tools mainly qtp.

So would you please suggest me as I am too much confused, whether I sould learn qtp to become upto company standard as companies are hiring exp people on qtp.

    Thanks

    Kavita Arora

    #57 Tiger2K on 06.18.08 at 8:35 am

    Dear Kavita,
I do see that you have limited your search options till Delhi.
No doubt that QTP is one of the hot cake in the market today. But once again companies
prefer working knowledge more than theoretical knowledge. Still that is not the end of
    world.
To set things clear, Learning QTP is certainly a plus in your resume, but manual testing did not
die also, it still exist everywhere. since your a manual tester, you still have option to get a job
in any company. just try to highlight the kind of work your done and the skill you pose in a
better way in your resume. I personally feel its the resume which maybe a issue in your case.

Learning QTP is not a ticket for getting a job. It certainly helps though.

Please let me know if you need further clarification

    Regards,
    Tiger2K

    #58 Kavita on 06.18.08 at 11:31 am

I really appreciate your reply Mr. tiger 2k. Would you please send me your email id so that I can forward my resume to you.

    Many many thanks to you!

    Hi,
I have around 2.10 years of experience in developement (Java)
Currently I am working with reputed MNC company.
I have given NCFM begineers certification and now preparing for other modules.
can anybody suggest me a proper approach to move in testing.
If possible recommend any testing Institute in Mumbai where I can do a testing course.
does anybody know about SQTL OR SEEDS institutes of testing in Mumbai.
    please do reply.

    #69 Chetan H. Kadulkar on 09.19.08 at 6:02 am

    Hi Tina,

SQTL is good institute and having dood faculties in andheri center.
but I think you can clear interview by reading notes from sqtl and no need to join institute if you have experience in sw industry.
You can easily get into testing by reading notes from SQTL those are very good.
also you can preapre for ISTQB and CSI exams both cost 4000 and 1000 Rs.
Very standard questions answers in exam and you can clear easily if you preapare for 4-5 days.

    Regards
